I do the same thing (not the squeezing part...) but yeah I make my best attempt to come off as the best person someone could think I am... I can't help it, it's like second nature, but I am not a social chameleon though, I keep myself as myself, I sometimes rearrange my vocabulary to make sure it is comfortable for who I am talking to.

"with the person I am conversing."
etc...
wow so you tightly squeeze something? does it hurt is it a painful way to force you to talk to someone? wow that doesn't sound like fun... and don't worry I don't think it's creepy or gross, but yeah tell me anything you feel [choice of diction](feel/want/need/desire/like), because I won't pass judgement, because currently that's something that bothers me, is people who pass judgement on others as if they are any "better." you are who you are, if someone gets the wrong impression, that's their problem, and they'll just have to figure out who you are by actually getting to know you... don't be afraid to present yourself... you are the only you that you could ever be, so be you.

oh well with the social anxiety crap, i constantly over think what i'm going to say. there's alot of hesitation because i don't want to be persecuted for what i say or be misread. it's a constant fear of thinking 'what are they thinking of me'. in order to get myself to talk (if i'm comfortable) i either take a deep breath or tightly squeeze something on my body (that sounds totally creepy and gross ).
